Collecting Model Airplanes

People have been fascinated in flying for a very long time. You may have dreamt of flying when you were a kid. Many people love the thought of flying. It seems that flying would be the ultimate achievement of man.

Ever since before the invention of aircraft, man have been trying to make devices that would let them fly, they would invent wings that can be worn and would jump from roofs of their houses to test it.

Some people even attach wings and tails in their bikes for additional thrust but all of these failed to achieve flight. Then, two men successfully invented a motor powered aircraft that actually flew. After this invention, people have been improving and developing aircrafts.

Today, airplanes are used as a form of transportation. It is the fastest way to get people from point A to point B. Now, many people who are awed by these machines make model airplanes. They produce small-scale models of aircrafts for hobby and you probably have made a simple paper airplane.

There are many purposes why people build model airplanes. Some makes model airplane for fun or as a hobby and some are for research and development of an airplane.

Aircraft manufacturing companies makes model airplanes to test if the new model is capable of flying. The process of making full sized airplanes is first designed on paper, then, a scaled model airplane based from the paper plan and finally the test flight to see if it can actually fly.

Aircraft manufacturing companies produce two types of model airplanes. These are the Static Model Airplane, and the Flying Model Airplane.

The static model airplane are not meant to fly but only made for decorations or wind tunnel testing. Model airplane collectors more commonly buy static model airplanes. Airplane models are of different types that ranges from historical airplanes to modern jets. Most models are detailed, complete with little windows and even the engines.

Some model airplanes are meant for wind tunnel testing. It is where the static model airplane is exposed to wind and wind tunnel technicians collect data to use it for the aid of the design.

Static model airplanes can be bought at your local hobby store or toy store built and painted, some models require painting and gluing, and there are snap fit models. It is very much like a puzzle where you can build your own static model airplanes.

Wood is often used in these model airplanes. However, plastic is much easier to assemble and are becoming more popular especially for beginner collectors. Plastic are also much more detailed in paint and are more realistic than that of the wood version.

The flying model airplanes are meant for aeromodelling. It has three basic types. These are free flight, control line and radio-controlled airplanes. These types of airplanes are designed on the same principle as a full sized aircraft.

•     Free flight models fly without attachment from the ground and without any help from motors.

•     Control line models are designed and built with motors and flown with cables attached from the wing to the pilot below controlling the plane.

•     Radio controlled airplanes fly with motors and without cables. This is possible by installing a transmitter operated by the pilot on the ground. It sends control signals to the receiver in the model airplane. These types of airplanes are becoming more popular to people today. You can play with it for hours in open grounds.

Airplane models, whether static or flight models, is great for a hobby. It is also a great way to spend time with your children if you have one.
